Importance: The reason invented spelling is so important to the learning aspect of our education is because this is what children use in order to express what they mean and are trying to say.

Word Walls
Definition: A word wall is a collection of words which are displayed in large visible letters on a wall, bulletin board, or other display surface in a classroom. Importance: The reason word walls are so important in our classroom is because they stand as a resource for students to use during activities. This eliminates many questions and disruptions during class as to how to spell words. This also allows for students to constantly see words so they become more familiar with them, therefore widening their vocabulary.

Word Sorts
Definition: A Word Sort is a simple individual or small group activity. Students list key words from a reading selection. Students identify the meaning and properties of each word and then "sort" the list into collections of words with similar features. https://strategiesforspecialinterventions.weebly.com/word-sort2.html

Importance: Word Sorts are important to the learning of phonics and overall education because they allow for students to practice their own types of categorization ideas, working with others, as well as expanding their vocabulary and word diction.

Morpheme Chart

Importance: The reason Morphemes are important to our education is because they are parts of a word and hold meaning and information other than just the sound and written letter. This is referring to the Affix and Root parts of words. Learning these parts can help students create new words using these already learned parts.

Phonemes
Definition: is a unit of sound in speech. A phoneme doesn't have any inherent meaning by itself, but when you put phonemes together, they can make words. https://study.com/academy/lesson/phoneme-definition-segmentation-examples.html

Importance: Phonemes are a large part of phonics because it is the basis for where it starts. You cannot move on to the next step without understanding the simplest unit of sound.

Synthetic Phonics
Definition: Synthetic phonics is a method of teaching where words are broken up into the smallest units of sound (phonemes) https://readingeggs.com/articles/2012/06/22/synthetic-phonics/

Picture:

Importance: The reason synthetic phonics is important to a child's education is because no child learns the same. In this case children are able to take small pieces, learn everything there is to know about them, and then put them with another thing. This allows children to learn the concept of building pieces into something larger or whole.

Analytic Phonics
Definition: children are taught to recognize whole words by sight, and later to break down the word into the smaller units of sound https://readingeggs.com/articles/2012/06/22/synthetic-phonics/

Picture:

Importance: The reason analytic phonics is important to children in the learning process is also due to the fact that all children learn differently. Some children learn better when they see things as a whole, rather than taking pieces and forming a whole. This allows them a better understanding and recognition skills.
